Anesthesia

Carolinas Oral and Facial Surgery Center is committed to making your surgical experience as comfortable and effortless as possible. We are aware that patients may feel a certain degree of worry and concern regarding pain when having any kind of surgery.

Not only do our surgeons have over 46 years of combined surgical experience, guaranteeing the best possible care, but COFSC also offers several types of anesthesia to ensure that your visit is painless.

We offer the following types of anesthesia:

  • Moderate sedation (going to sleep; medication is administered through an IV)
  • Nitrous oxide (commonly known as “laughing gas”)
  • Local anesthetic (numbing medicine, this does not put you to sleep, but thoroughly numbs the surgical area)
  • Pre-medications (medications taken prior to your surgery, designed to make you less anxious and comfortable during your procedure)

Every patient’s needs are carefully considered by our surgeons when you meet with them regarding your care. They will recommend the safest and most effective method of anesthesia for your specific situation.

If you do elect to go to sleep, you will be given specific instructions to follow on the day of your surgery. After your procedure is completed, all patients receive post-operative care instructions, medications, and guidance through your recovery period. If you have any questions or concerns after your surgery, the surgeon and his assistant will be happy to speak with you. In addition, you may be asked to return to the office for a quick 5 minute check to allow the surgeon to confirm that your surgical site is healing appropriately.
